Do you need inspiration for your moody fall wedding? Look no further than our late September styled shoot at Flyway Lodge in Knotts Island, North Carolina, which is the antithesis of our European Pinner House shoot from 2020. This venue exemplifies fall at its core; it’s like you can picture the colorful falling leaves, a bourbon in your hand, and a bayside bonfire from the moment you enter the grounds. Ultimately, this historical lodge is both stunning and offers endless options for wedding day layouts.

We were fortunate to have not one, but four incredible photographers and videographers join us at this styled shoot: Wild Heart Co., Meghan Glass Photography, and Chelsey Kraus Photography. The photos above are in order from each photographer or team.

We loved witnessing how each expert captured the shoot, our four model sets, and all of the smaller details throughout the day. Honestly, this is why choosing your photographer isn’t an easy task. There is so much talent in this area and a thousand different ways to view a day through composition, editing, and artistic preferences. That being said, figuring out how to share all of their work in one blog post proved difficult. So, we’re going to share one-by-one with notes on the shoot between each gallery.

Fall wedding ideas

The idea for the shoot started with Citrine Bride. Katie from Citrine Collective, a sustainable beauty salon, messaged us asking if we’d be interested in collaborating on a shoot. We loved the idea because it was a chance to prove that the Amber Justine Events team could pull off designing and organizing something out of our blue, coastal, European comfort zone. From there, we started talking about dates, venues, vendors, vibes, and all the other intricacies that go into a successful styled shoot.

Within a couple of months (and during a busy fall season, nonetheless), we went from conception to a full vendor team, a few different sets, and four groupings of models. Along the way, we met with notable local vendors to chat through the design and make rental selections; it was a true team effort. Organizing the timeline to get all the models through beauty, the venue decorated, and all the photographers as well as the videographer time with each model was a puzzle, but our favorite kind to piece together.

Fall wedding place cards

The day of the shoot was a whirlwind of exciting activity. Citrine Bride greeted models at Citrine Collective, starting hair and makeup, while Amber Justine Events headed south to Knotts Island to begin setting up the multitude of staged areas. It was a beautiful, sunny day, so we happily set up shop with snacks and music at the venue while unloading all of our items. It felt like setting up for any other fall wedding day!

Fall wedding black tablescape

Our photographers arrived before any models to capture details shots, from The Native Lion’s invitation suite to the maximalist tablescapes. We spared no stops in developing the design for the day, going as far as renting a large U-Haul to get everything to the venue. Being a wedding planner is actually a ton of physical labor, which isn’t discussed enough to prospective wedding planners. That’s why we almost never wear heels to any events; we end up lifting a ton of décor as well as walking miles and miles without sitting for hours. It’s an adrenaline rush!

Fall wedding dried bouquet

The rest of the day moved quickly once all of our models arrived. It went in a fun, smoothly running blur! The photographers and videographers came up with a multitude of unique shot ideas; we’ve loved seeing the different ways they captured the day as they would any fall wedding. Check it out for yourself!
